The first Asian to die of complications due to H1N1 is a staff member working for a Congressman at the Philippine Lower House. Rep. Pingoy, chairman of the House Health Committee, confirmed this today. As a response, Speaker Prospero Nograles who is in Brazil with Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo suspended work in Congress. While this is happening, two employees of the House were also tested positive for H1N1. These employees were immediately brought to the nearest hospital. The Department of Health meanwhile, announced the possibility of a “second wave” of the H1N1 virus, possibly deadlier or more virulent than the first one. Despite this, Malacanang advises everyone not to panic.
