Pop superstar Michael Jackson died due to a massive heart attack today at an L.A. hospital. A call was made at around 12:15pm from Jackson’s house.Paramedics rushed to his house when the pop superstar complained of chest pains. He was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center where he was put under emergency care. He reportedly collapsed and died after an hour in intensive care, according to Associated Press. There is still no reports as to what caused Jackson’s condition, however some doctors say it might be because of the pop icon’s diet and fad lifestyle. However, other reports say he’s still alive and in a coma inside the UCLA Hospital in Los Angeles, California. The King of Pop was slated this year to renew his world tour. He waxed a new album and was about to launch it when the tragedy happened. He was 50. Last May 19, reports say that Michael Jackson was so thin, he was being asked to suppliment his diet as a condition for renewing his concert tour. The pop star refused. Similarly, former 70’s sex symbol Farrah Fawcett also died at the Saint Johns Hospital in Santa Monica California due to cancer. Fawcett entered the hospital last April. Fawcett has suffered from anal cancer for years. She left one child and husband, star Ryan O’Neal. She was 62. Fawcett shot to superstardom when she shot a pinup poster in 1976. She was famous then as one of the stars in the hit show, “Charlie’s Angels.” After “Angels”, Fawcett starred in several movies and even co-starred with former husband Lee Majors in the “Million Dollar Man.” Some years after her divorce with Majors, she found a new love with Ryan O’Neal. They had a son, Raymond, who’s now in rehabilitative care. These stars will be remembered, classy acts during their time.

1st H1N1 Fatality a staff working in Congress

The first Asian to die of complications due to H1N1 is a staff member working for a Congressman at the Philippine Lower House. Rep. Pingoy, chairman of the House Health Committee, confirmed this today. As a response, Speaker Prospero Nograles who is in Brazil with Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo suspended work in Congress. While this is happening, two employees of the House were also tested positive for H1N1. These employees were immediately brought to the nearest hospital. The Department of Health meanwhile, announced the possibility of a “second wave” of the H1N1 virus, possibly deadlier or more virulent than the first one. Despite this, Malacanang advises everyone not to panic.

Sulpicio Lines owner charged with multiple murder

The Philippine Department of Justice has recommended the filing of multiple murder charges against Edward Go, vice president of Sulpicio Lines. Sulpicio Lines is the company behind MV Princess of the Stars, the passenger ship which sank a year ago. Hundreds of Filipino passengers died.

DOJ Secretary Agnes Devenadera announced the filing of charges shortly after hundreds of victims of Sulpicio Lines visited her office today. Devenadera said the DOJ panel found Edward Go liable for the tragedy due to his direct management of the company.  Go is being indicted for the crime of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide.

DOH says H1N1 cases expected to rise further

Health secretary Francisco Duque says government expects the number of H1N1 cases in the Philippines to rise due to the advent of the rainy season. As of this writing, 428 cases have been reported.

Duque said that H1N1 cases are being reported throughout the world. Cases are rising. With the expected rainy season, the Department of Health (DoH) expects more cases to be reported.

The spread of H1N1 is phenomenally fast in the Philippines, compared with other Asian countries. When the virus broke out a month ago, the DoH reported no H1N1 cases. A few weeks past, victims reporting symptoms of the disease were reported. A community outbreak in Nueva Ecija was reported. While a school reported more than 200 suspected cases in Bulacan, Bulacan.

In Metro Manila, schools have been reported to have suspended their classes due to reports of confirmed H1N1 cases. The latest school to have reported a confirmed H1N1 case is the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Earlier, the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Miriam College, Ateneo de Manila University and Dela Salle University-Taft reported cases of students with H1N1 virus.
